Prime Minister Mark Carney’s promise to curtail wasteful government spending, particularly on things such as consultants, has only increased after his first year in office, which saw a 10 per cent increase under his tenure.
The Department of Employment, which is one of the federal government’s largest spenders when it comes to consultants, spent $998.5 million on them last year alone. It marked a 10 per cent increase from the department’s six-year average of $910 million.
