Conservatives vote on Pierre Poilievre's leadership
Delegates at the Conservative Party’s national convention in Calgary are voting on Pierre Poilievre’s leadership as the party weighs its direction ahead of a potential spring election.
Conservative delegates from across the country are gathering in Calgary this week to vote on whether Pierre Poilievre should continue as party leader, a decision that could shape the party’s strategy heading into the next federal campaign.
Juno News’ Alex Brown reports a largely positive mood on the ground, with organizers describing the event as the largest convention the party has ever held. Roughly 3,000 delegates are expected to attend, with strong turnout fuelling optimism among party officials despite disappointment over the last election result.
While Western alienation and Alberta’s growing independence movement have surfaced in side conversations, Brown says the dominant focus remains party unity and election readiness.
