Conservatives allege Brookfield ties to Carney’s condo bailout
The proposed witness list spans ministers, mayors, a B.C. real estate mogul, Liberal-linked developer executives, Concert and Brookfield.
Conservative MPs accused the Carney Liberals Tuesday of orchestrating a multibillion-dollar bailout that could benefit Metro Vancouver developers linked to Brookfield.
In a heated ethics committee meeting Tuesday, Conservative MP Aaron Gunn moved to summon real estate mogul Bob Rennie, Housing Minister Gregor Robertson and major developers tied to a contentious Carney fundraiser as witnesses in a probe of the proposed bailout.
Gunn is demanding answers about who lobbied for the policy and who stands to benefit. “The Liberal Party never campaigned to give more than a billion dollars… to their wealthy friends,” he said, accusing Prime Minister Mark Carney and his government of engaging in “crony capitalism.”
Despite Carney’s denials, Conservative MP Gabriel Hardy laid out a timeline ending in the hearing’s sharpest allegation.
