Conservative MP introduces bill to ban MAID for mental illness
Tamara Jansen tabled Bill C-218 that seeks to amend the Criminal Code to explicitly exclude mental disorders from being considered a “grievous and irremediable medical condition” for MAID eligibility.
Last week, Tamara Jansen, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Cloverdale–Langley City, tabled Bill C-218, a private member’s bill that seeks to amend the Criminal Code to explicitly exclude mental disorders from being considered a “grievous and irremediable medical condition” for the purposes of MAID eligibility.
If the bill passes, individuals would be disqualified for assisted death on the basis of mental illness alone.
