Civil liberties critic Roman Baber is blasting the Liberal government over a proposal that could see Canadians hit with lawsuits for allegedly spreading “misinformation,” calling it a direct threat to free expression.

“I understand that the Memo is not clear on legal strategies that may be implemented against Canadians who are alleged to spread misleading information,” Baber writes in a letter dated Jul. 9.

This morning I wrote to Minister @melaniejoly demanding that she release a full copy of the ISED Memo and publicly reject the litigation strategy proposed. Canadians should not be placed in legal jeopardy for exercising free speech!
