Prime Minister Mark Carney’s summit with First Nations leaders blew up on Thursday after several chiefs stormed out, slamming the entire event as a “facade” and accusing the Liberal government of cooking up the meeting for political gain.
Held at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, the summit was closed to media and intended to address concerns over Bill C-5, the newly-passed Building Canada Act. The bill allows cabinet to fast-track approvals for industrial projects deemed to be in the national interest.
