China’s embassy in Canada says the Conservative MP Michael Chong crossed a “red line” with his decision to visit Taiwan this week to meet with Taiwanese officials to display Canadian sovereignty on the global stage.

Last month, China’s Ambassador to Canada, Wang Di, told The Canadian Press that Canada must sever all ties with Taiwan and refrain from participating in U.S.-led exercises in the Taiwan Strait.
