Cenovus CEO Jon McKenzie is sounding the alarm over what he says is Canada’s self-inflicted energy crisis, accusing Ottawa of driving away investment and weakening one of the country’s greatest economic advantages through burdensome climate policies and regulatory delays.

During Cenovus Energy’s first-quarter conference call, McKenzie argued that Canada’s political class has spent years fixating on emissions targets while ignoring the broader economic benefits of oil sands development.
