CCFR praises Good Samaritan after West Kelowna ‘gun’ scare
The firearms advocacy group says the incident shows the value of citizens stepping in to protect others—not the need for more gun control.
What initially appeared to be an armed confrontation at a West Kelowna apartment complex has been confirmed as a replica BB gun incident, with the Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights arguing the case exposes the importance of courageous bystanders rather than a need for tougher firearms laws.
West Kelowna RCMP responded to numerous 911 calls on Jul. 18 reporting a fight and an apparent firearm at a residential complex on Old Ferry Wharf Road.
“The scene was extremely chaotic when officers arrived, with numerous people involved and reports that a firearm had been produced,” said Cpl. Devon Gerrits.
Police arrested a 22-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, later determining the seized weapon was a replica BB gun, as first reported by Castanet.
The man was released pending court on recommended charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with a release order. The woman was also released, and the investigation remains ongoing.
