An apparent armed confrontation at a West Kelowna apartment complex turned out to involve a replica BB gun, with a firearms group arguing the incident highlights the importance of courageous bystanders — not tougher gun laws.
West Kelowna RCMP responded to numerous 911 calls on Jul. 18 reporting a fight and an apparent firearm at a residential complex on Old Ferry Wharf Road.
“The scene was extremely chaotic when officers arrived, with numerous people involved and reports that a firearm had been produced,” said Cpl. Devon Gerrits.
Police arrested a 22-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, later determining the seized weapon was a replica BB gun, as first reported by Castanet.
The man was released pending court on recommended weapons and release-order charges. The woman was also released as the investigation continues.
