CBC 'suspends' - not fires- reporter over on-air antisemitic rant
Taxpayer-funded State Broadcaster reporter expressed antisemitic conspiracies about Jewish influence during a segment on the Middle East
CBC says it has “relieved” reporter Élisa P. Serret of her duties after she delved into an antisemitic conspiracy rant while live on the air.

“It’s the Jews who finance much of American politics,” she said. “Here in the United States, the big cities are run by Jews; Hollywood is run by Jews.”
CBC said the remarks made contradict its Journalistic Standards and Practices and do not reflect the opinion of the broadcaster.
The French arm of CBC said in its apology, which it reiterated in a reply to True North, that her analysis on Monday “made stereotypical, antisemitic, erroneous, and harmful allegations against Jewish communities regarding U.S. policy in the Middle East.”
“As a result, the news department has decided to relieve the journalist of her duties until further notice,” added CBC. “We sincerely regret this incident and would like to apologize to our viewers and the Jewish community.”
Notably, CBC did not indicate that the reporter had been fired, nor even suspended without pay.
The comments came to light after they were shared by the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs in a post to X. The agency demanded immediate condemnation from relevant leaders, specifically tagging Culture Minister Steven Guilbeault.
He issued a statement condemning the broadcast and supporting the Jewish community on Tuesday morning.
“The words used on last night’s broadcast were pernicious antisemitic tropes and have absolutely no place on Canadian airwaves. When antisemitic language is used by journalists, or anyone in a position of trust, it risks normalizing hatred in deeply dangerous ways,” he said. “Jewish Canadians deserve to feel safe, supported, and accepted, and to live openly and proudly Jewish lives, without intimidation or fear.”
While Guilbeault said that “antisemitism has no place in Canada,” instances of it have been rising.
Guilbeault further added that the Government could not “interfere” in decisions by the State Broadcaster, which benefits from $1.3 billion in taxpayer funding every year.
A recent report from B’nai Brith Canada highlighted that antisemitic incidents had risen 124.6 per cent between 2022 and 2024.

From what I see most cities are run by the Muslim brotherhood, not the Jews. Nenshi, Gondek, Sohi. In the UK 90% of all mayors are Muslim. But, lets just blame the Jews. Hmmm?
Who is this lunatic and which rock did she just crawl out from under. Anyone with any common sense would know that the Jews, "Christians"do not run Hollywood. The Jews could not possibly be part of that freak show. Has she ever watched television??? Every other commercial has a queer in it and almost every movie has the queers involved in the cast. That's all part of the Hollywood woke movement. Do you realize that queers only make up about 1% of the population but they are in almost every advertisement, commercial and movie. How many real talented actors are getting passed by so the woke movement can move forward?
There is very few Christian movies that comes out of Hollywood, almost none and the movies that are good wholesome shows are mostly directed by Mel Gibson who has suffered greatly by resisting Hollywood's woke movement.
I guess I'm just a bit shocked that I am contributing towards her wages.
