The Aug. 3 As It Happens story detailed a pioneering operation performed on Theo, who was diagnosed with gastroschisis, a rare birth defect in which the intestines develop outside the body.

Theo’s mother, 29-year-old Maisie Savage, learned of the condition during her 20-week scan.
At 26 weeks, surgeons at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston performed an experimental operation while Theo was still in the womb, placing his intestines back inside his body as part of a clinical trial.
Theo is now five months old and healthy, according to the CBC report.
