"Canada’s Criminal Code tells judges to consider alternatives to jail for all offenders, but then adds a special instruction: judges must give “particular attention to the circumstances of Aboriginal offenders.” "All animals are equal. Some animals are more equal than others...."

One more symptom of the illness infecting this once-proud country.

Yet one more idiotic, blue sky, rainbows and unicorns, Utopian juvenile fantasy inflicted on us by Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party. One enormous virtue signal for political gain.

An illness continued, and thereby sanctified by Trudeau's replacement.

Beyond despicable.

RIP Canada.

When I took Law11 in high school (back in the 70s ) the first thing we learned was “ignorance is no excuse”. The law is supposed be equal and blind to prejudice. Strong laws with hefty penalties act as a deterrent so that law abiding society has justice for ANYONE who breaks the laws PERIOD.

> an individual circumstance is not the same thing as ancestry.

Excellent column. And when it comes to the native claims it's often, "stories my grandparents told me" (i.e. something I made made up.)

If a “major disconnection” from native culture causes alcohol abuse, why did the Canadian government have to create the RCMP to protect (then) Indians from alcohol abuse by sending the American whiskey traders back across the border. It seems there was plenty of alcohol abuse at a time when they were very well connected to their native culture.
