Carney’s first year in office marks worst economic debut in over 60 years
When former prime minister Stephen Harper first took office, growth came in at 1.4 per cent a year later in 2006-07, while Justin Trudeau oversaw 1.7 per cent in 2015-16.
The Canadian economy shrank after one year of Prime Minister Mark Carney in office, earning him the worst debut for a Canadian prime minister in over six decades.
Canada’s real gross domestic product has contracted by 0.05 per cent since Carney was elected, yet despite this, a majority of Canadians remain under the impression that he’s handling the economy well.
