The Carney government says it is ready to “contribute to appropriate efforts” to regain safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has blocked the strait amid escalating tensions, resulting in a “de facto closure” of the significant international shipping artery.

Prime Minister Mark Carney released a joint statement with the leaders of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Japan, expressing their “readiness to contribute to appropriate efforts to ensure safe passage through the Strait.”
