Alberta independence figure Jeff Rath says Mark Carney suggested using emergency powers to block Alberta separation
Alberta independence advocate Jeff Rath says he was contacted by a steel mill employee who claimed to have been present during Prime Minister Mark Carney’s visit to the Stelco steel plant in Hamilton last month. Rath says the caller told him Carney was asked about Alberta independence and, according to the witness account, replied: “There will be no Alberta independence because I’ll invoke the Emergencies Act.”
Rath said he spoke directly with the individual who made the claim and considered them credible, but the information has not been independently verified.
