Carney still silent on economic recession four days later

The latest data paints a grim picture for the Canadian economy, despite members of the Carney government describing it as only a “technical” recession.

Prime Minister Mark Carney has yet to publicly comment on Canada’s economy entering a recession after Statistics Canada data released last week showed gross domestic product contracted for two consecutive quarters.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre wrote an open letter to Carney on Sunday calling for an emergency debate in the House of Commons, accusing him of failing to make good on his promise to make Canada the fastest-growing economy in the G7.
