Carney stands by controversial floor-crosser as protests grow
Mass protests, “traitor” signs, and China controversy follow Liberal defector Michael Ma — but Carney isn’t backing down. Toronto Sun columnist Brian Lilley joins Marc Patrone to discuss.
Liberal MP Michael Ma is facing mounting backlash after controversial comments casting doubt on reports of forced labour in China — and now the fallout is hitting Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Protesters confronted Carney’s motorcade in Markham, while residents who once voted Conservative are calling Ma a “traitor” and demanding his resignation. Despite the growing outrage, Carney says Ma has apologized and will remain in caucus.
Is Ma too politically valuable to drop — or becoming a liability for the Liberals?
Toronto Sun columnist Brian Lilley joins Marc Patrone to break down what this reveals about Carney’s stance on China, trade enforcement, and whether the Liberals are risking deeper tensions with the U.S.

The phrase FOOLS SELDOM DIFFER comes to mind.
Along with RATS and CHINA LOVING TRAITORS.
Shown, in picture top right of this article. One only visiting Canada until it's time for him to run away. The other one who has now shown why the Conservatives should be happy he is gone.
Canada...
What have you done to yourself?
It appears you really do have an extinction level death wish.
Too bad you have to take so many who actually get it with you as you crash and burn into oblivion.
Hey everybody! Let's calm down now. Be kind.
This is one of our cherished Chinese Diasporian (if that's a word), MP's, a true Canadian patriot and our Prime Minister we're talking about. You know, the PM who has so graciously agreed to rule over us. Exercising that rule, toiling tirelessly away without the benefit of having received a single vote from a Canadian, at any time, in any Federal or Provincial election. Spending as little time in Canada as he does, that must be truly difficult.
I'm so happy, that today, April 1, we're able to reward him and every other MP with a much-deserved salary increase for their 11 days in Parliament (so far) this year. I mean, what back bencher possibly exist on the mere $208,000 annual pittance they had been struggling to survive on? And don't fret now, it's just 12 more months until your next one.
April Fools everyone!
Politicians get richer every April 1, and we're the fools.
