Carney SQUIRMS as Ford again boasts about his US ads
Doug Ford’s defence of his U.S. ad blitz draws a visible reaction from Carney as Canada–U.S. trade talks remain stalled.
Prime Minister Mark Carney acknowledged that Canada and the United States were “close to an agreement” on trade before negotiations stalled, as he and Ontario Premier Doug Ford faced questions about Ford’s decision to run anti-tariff advertisements on U.S. television.
Asked whether the ads contributed to the breakdown in talks, Carney declined to directly blame Ford but confirmed discussions were at a sensitive stage. Standing beside him, Ford defended the campaign, calling it the “best ad ever run” and saying it was intended to draw the attention of the American public and lawmakers.
The exchange came amid U.S. demands that Canada expand access to its dairy market as a condition for renewing the North American free-trade deal in 2026. Carney reiterated that Canada’s supply-management system is not on the table in negotiations.
Ford rejected suggestions that protecting supply management could expose other sectors to trade retaliation, arguing that Ontario’s food and agriculture sector is larger than its auto industry and should be defended.

What if Fordeau and Corny met at Fordeau’s cottage, had a hot tub together and perished in a bizarre wiring accident?
