Prime Minister Mark Carney defended his government’s handling of a conflict of interest screening tied to Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne’s relationship with an executive at the $90 billion Alto Rail project by calling it a “good situation.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Carney said the minister’s response allows his wife and vice president of environment at Alto Rail, Anne-Marie Gaudet, to carry on in her high-profile role with the company as it benefits from taxpayer dollars.
