Carney pledges $4.3B support for Ukraine, new Russia sanctions

Prime Minister Mark Carney pledged $4.3 billion in support for Ukraine and announced new sanctions on Russia after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Alberta at the G7 Summit.
The Prime Minister’s Office outlined $2 billion for weapons such as drones and armoured vehicles, and another $2.3 billion to fund the rebuilding of Ukrainian infrastructure destroyed by Russia.
The $2 billion allocated for Ukrainian weaponry will count towards Canada’s two per cent defense spending target to meet NATO requirements.
Carney also welcomed NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte to join in discussions with G7 leaders regarding Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Additionally, Ottawa will add new sanctions on Russian assets, including energy revenues and 201 additional vessels in its shadow fleet. The newly added vessels have been used to ship oil, liquefied natural gas, and weaponry while evading existing sanctions. Canada will also restrict the import of Russian coal, metals, and other goods.
Carney invited Zelenskyy to the G7 in Alberta, saying that the Ukrainian war effort would be a central part of the summit’s discussions. The prime minister condemned the more recent round of Russian attacks “in the strongest terms” as he met with Zelenskyy on Tuesday. Twelve people were killed and more than 130 were injured in Russia’s latest attacks, which involved 32 missiles and 440 drones, marking the deadliest attack on Kyiv this year.
“To be absolutely clear, this support will be unwavering until we get a just peace for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people,” said Carney. “We underscore the importance of using maximum pressure against Russia, who has refused to come to the table in search of peace.”
The Russian strike targeted civilian infrastructure and housing.
“It’s a big tragedy for us, and we need support from our allies,” Zelenskyy told reporters at the summit. “We are ready for peace negotiations, an unconditional ceasefire. I think it’s very important, but for this, we need pressure.”
Ottawa’s new sanctions will affect 77 individuals and 39 entities, in addition to restricting trade on nearly 1,000 items with Russia.
The new export restrictions include goods related to the production of biological and chemical weapons, industrial goods and certain advanced technologies.
“Canada remains unwavering in its commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and its people, who are forcefully defending their rights in the face of Russia’s continued aggression,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand.
“As we conclude the 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit in Kananaskis, we are sending a clear message to Russia that the international community will continue to show a united front to support Ukraine for as long as it takes.”
The whole Ukraine war is a political fraud and stunt by neocons like Mark Carney. The Liberals have no authority to financially support this war when Canada is literally falling apart.
Europe is bankrupt, money down the drain. We are not Europeans, is Carney even Canadian?
NO MORE WARS!
No financial update, no budget, no accountability, just order more paper print more money the budget will balance itself. One would think the elbows up crowd would be more disturbed than usual seeing their leader getting cozy with Donald but sending more taxpayer billions of $$$$$ to a foreign country while millions of Canadians go to the food banks and live on the streets will keep them happy.
