Prime Minister Mark Carney met with Canada’s Special Representative on Combating Islamophobia, Amira Elghawaby, last week to discuss hate crimes, discrimination, and policy issues affecting Muslim, Arab and Palestinian communities.
In a statement released July 4, Elghawaby said she used the meeting to introduce the Prime Minister to the work of her office and to highlight “key domestic policies impacting Canadian Muslims,” including equity concerns in federal programs and a rise in reported hate-motivated incidents.
