Carney freezes family reunification program indefinitely

Ottawa is refusing all new applications to its parent and grandparent sponsorship program, with no timeline for reopening intake.

Ottawa is quietly shutting families out of its parent and grandparent sponsorship program this year, refusing all new applications despite calling family reunification a cornerstone of Canada’s immigration system.

“Family reunification remains an important pillar of Canada’s immigration system,” Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada said in a Jul. 15 statement.
