Carney claims family of four will only spend $10k on groceries this year

Canada’s Food Price Report said a family of four is projected to spend $17,572 on food this year as the country deals with the second-highest food inflation in the G7.

Prime Minister Mark Carney falsely claimed that the average Canadian family spends $800 per month on groceries or $10,000 per year, just over half of what the reality actually is at well over $17,000.

According to Canada’s Food Price Report 2026, a family of four is projected to spend $17,572 on food this year or $1,464 per month. The report also noted an increase of $994.63 compared to last year.
