Carney calls Canada's ties with U.S. "weaknesses we must correct"
Mark Carney says Canada’s economic ties with the United States have become “weaknesses we must correct” as tensions grow over trade and questions are raised about his U.S. investments
Prime Minister Mark Carney is warning that Canada must rethink its relationship with the United States, arguing that long-standing economic ties have become “weaknesses we must correct.”
In a video released on Sunday, Carney said Canada’s dependence on the U.S. leaves the country exposed, adding that “the U.S. has changed, and we must respond,” as pressure builds on key industries like autos, steel, and lumber.
Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre accused the Prime Minister of signalling a “permanent rupture” with the United States, while also pointing to Carney’s own investments south of the border.
Meanwhile, Nova Scotia veteran Jeff Evely is celebrating a major legal victory after a judge struck down a provincial ban that saw him fined nearly $29,000 for walking in the woods during wildfire restrictions. He joins Marc Patrone to discuss the case and what it reveals about government overreach in Canada.
