Prime Minister Mark Carney faced a hostile crowd at the CFL Grey Cup in Manitoba, drawing loud boos every time he appeared on screen.
The raucous crowd made its feelings heard both during the national anthem and when Prime Minister Mark Carney entered the field to do the game’s coin toss at the 112th Grey Cup.
The championship game, held Sunday night at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg, featured the Montreal Alouettes and the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Fans interrupted the national anthem with boos when the prime minister was shown on the big screen.
“Joining the team captains is the prime minister of Canada, le premier ministre du Canada, Mark Carney, and the CEO of Coinbase Canada, Lucas Matheson,” the announcer said, which was met with a “widely negative response from the crowd.”
Loud booing could also be heard in the lead-up to the coin toss, which increased in volume as Carney tossed the coin into the air.
When asked about the incident, Carney told reporters in Ottawa that he was “cheered as well” and that his government represents the “entire country.”
Carney later posted an edited video of his entrance at the Grey Cup, replacing the original audio with the song “Can’t Hold Us” by hip hop duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.
It included the caption: “Thanks to the people of Winnipeg for welcoming me and congratulations to the@sskroughriders for this great victory.”
Saskatchewan beat the Alouettes 25-17.

Carney...
Canada's version of LET'S GO BRANDON.
The Boo's were too good for him.
Wonder how long its going to take him to get to the "feel the love" status of the jerk with the weird sock fetish?
I, thankfully missed it because I chose not to witness another pathetic Grey Cup where Liberal Politics reigns supreme. From the bilingual nonsense to a DEI focused sport I gave up on the game a few years ago.
