As some speculate a snap election may be on the horizon, Prime Minister Mark Carney is hoping to alleviate Canadians’ worries about the cost-of-living crisis with a temporary hike to the GST credit, rebranding the payout as the “Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit.”
“Canadians need a boost today and a bridge to tomorrow,” Carney told reporters from an Ottawa grocery store Monday. “And that’s why our government has been relentlessly focused on making life more affordable for Canadians.”
