The Carney government has nominated Canada’s Chief of the Defence Staff, Gen. Jennie Carignan, as the next chair of NATO’s Military Committee, a position that will become available next year.

The last time a Canadian held the role was in the early 2000s, when retired Gen. Ray Henault served as chair.
