A care support assistant at a long-term care home in the Town of Georgina, north of Toronto, is facing a sexual assault charge in connection with an alleged incident involving a female resident.
York Regional Police say officers responded to the facility on June 19 after receiving a report that a female resident had been sexually assaulted.
Due to a medical condition, police say the woman was unable to provide a statement.
Following an investigation, police say a staff member was identified as the suspect.
Jefferson Daye, 57, of Georgina, has been charged with one count of sexual assault.
Investigators say he had worked at the care home for about a year and had regular access to residents.
Police say Daye may also be affiliated with several church communities in Georgina and nearby East Gwillimbury, where he may have presented himself as a pastor.
“Given his access to vulnerable individuals in both caregiving and religious roles, investigators are concerned that there may be other victims who have not yet come forward,” police said in a news release issued Thursday.
An image of the accused has been released as part of the ongoing investigation.
York police are encouraging anyone who believes they may have been a victim of sexual assault to contact investigators.
There is no statute of limitations for sexual offences in Canada.
I hope he gets a lengthy time in jail. Disgraceful behaviour.
Gross! Disgusting!!
