Canadian Media Guild urges Ottawa to restrict legal speech it finds "harmful”

The media organization told the Commons heritage committee that journalists face an "overwhelming" amount of "toxicity" online and federal measures should be taken.

The Canadian Media Guild, the labour union representing CBC employees, is calling on the government for more taxpayer money, as well as implementing legislation to regulate legal online speech that it finds “harmful.”

CMG President Jane Robertson told the Commons heritage committee on Thursday that the Carney government must begin restricting what people say about journalists on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
