Canadian living standards falling behind Americans’ since 1999

The inflation-adjusted median employment income in the U.S. was $6,126 higher than in Canada in 2010, but by 2024, that gap had increased to $8,663.

The gap in living standards between Canadians and Americans has been steadily widening since the turn of the century, according to a study published by the Fraser Institute, which found that

“In 1999, GDP per person in the U.S. was CA$10,766 higher than in Canada, and by 2024 this difference had increased to CA$23,757—meaning the gap in living standards between Canada and the U.S. has more than doubled,” reads the study published earlier this month.
