Canadian leftists have meltdown over arrest of narco-terrorist Nicolás Maduro

Canadian left-wing activists, journalists, and opposition politicians were in uproar after U.S. forces arrested Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro over narco-terrorism allegations.
The criticism followed a successful operation by American forces that entered Venezuela, conducted air strikes and captured Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
“Since 2019, when Canada closed its embassy in Venezuela, we have refused to recognize any legitimacy of the Maduro regime and opposed its repression of the Venezuelan people, including the persecution of dissenters and particularly political leaders opposed to the regime,” said Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand in response to the news.
“In keeping with our long-standing commitment to upholding the rule of law and democracy, Canada calls on all parties to respect international law and we stand by the people of Venezuela and their desire to live in a peaceful and democratic society,” the statement said.
Anand added that Canada is engaging with international partners and monitoring developments closely, and said Ottawa stands ready to assist Canadians through its embassy in Bogotá, Colombia.
While the statement reiterated Canada’s long-standing refusal to recognize Maduro as Venezuela’s legitimate leader, critics on the left complained it failed to explicitly condemn the reported U.S. military action that led to his removal.
Journalist and commentator Rachel Gilmore criticized Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre for praising the reported arrest of Maduro and warned of broader implications.
“Genuinely horrifying take when you consider there’s no technical, legal difference between kidnapping Maduro and kidnapping Carney,” Gilmore wrote on X. “And calling this ‘freedom’… Orwell wept.”
Author and journalist Nora Loreto focused her criticism on Trump, calling the reported operation an act of war.
“Keen to see Americans take down their own president over this unmitigated act of war,” Loreto wrote on X. “Trump barely won. Surely you people remember how to protest?”
Left-wing activist and former federal NDP nomination candidate Yves Engler said Canada’s response amounted to tacit approval of the U.S. action.
“Canada effectively endorses Trump’s flagrant violation of international law & kidnapping of head of state,” Engler wrote on X. “Incredible part, it’s not impossible to imagine Trump doing same thing to Carney or Anand.”
Similar concerns were raised by Interim NDP Leader Don Davies, who said the reported operation, if confirmed, would breach international law.
“If true, this is a flagrant breach of international law and the rules-based system the U.S. claims to support,” Davies said in a statement. “Canada must strongly condemn it and call for the immediate cessation of aggression by the U.S. against the sovereign state of Venezuela.”
The criticism follows Trump’s statement that Maduro and his wife were captured and flown out of Venezuela in an operation conducted with U.S. law enforcement. U.S. officials later said the pair had been indicted in the Southern District of New York.
As of Saturday, there was no independent verification of the U.S. claims. The Pentagon and the U.S. State Department had not released detailed information about the operation, and Venezuelan authorities had not publicly commented.
Canada closed its embassy in Caracas in 2019 and has aligned with the United States and other allies in opposing Maduro’s government while backing Venezuelan opposition figures.
The Liberal government has not said whether it considers the reported U.S. action consistent with international law, beyond its call for all parties to respect legal norms.

It is very good Maduro has been arrested, he is a very bad person. Note arrested not kidnapped. Every one should wonder about people that would support the likes of Maduro.
Lefty heads are exploding, a sure sign that Trump is on the right track.
