The Canadian Bar Association is telling media to stop “delegitimizing” judges after backlash against Ontario Superior Court justice Faisal Mirza but critics say the real issue isn’t the coverage, it’s his record.

In an April 2 statement, CBA President Bianca Kratt said recent commentary targeting Mirza was “yet another crude effort at undermining public confidence in the judiciary.”

She added that while public debate over criminal justice is appropriate, “the attribution of patterns of personal bias to a judge for applying the law” falls outside acceptable discourse.
