A U.S. “anti-hate” group now facing federal indictment for allegedly funnelling money to extremists didn’t just operate south of the border; it helped kickstart Canada’s own version.

That organization, the Canadian Anti-Hate Network (CAHN), went on to receive hundreds of thousands in federal funding, with Ottawa continuing to bankroll it even as questions mount about its methods, ties to the violent far-left group Antifa and the political influence they wield.

The U.S. Department of Justice indicted the Southern Poverty Law Center with 11-counts this week, alleging the organization secretly funnelled more than $3 million to individuals affiliated with extremist groups between 2014 and 2023.
