Canada’s trade deficit ballooned in January as exports, particularly in the critical motor vehicle sector, crashed to their lowest levels in more than four years, according to new data from Statistics Canada.

Goods exports also saw their largest monthly decline since last April, dropping 4.7 per cent. This brought Canada’s trade shortfall from $1.3 billion to $3.65 billion.
