I will concede that in the case of this lady, whose diagnosis is beyond my comprehension, some people do have health issues that defy one's own health maintenance. But many people are kept sick by the medical drugs they are prescribed that do nothing to cure an ailment, but only to manage the symptoms. Painkillers are a great example. But this "business" is so good that demand for medical intervention has exceeded available resources, such as medical staff and possibly hospital space to accommodate patients. There are fewer doctors and specialists to "service" overwhelming patient care. However, if more people took greater interest in their own health rather than relying on doctors, there would be fewer demands on the system, but that wouldn't be good for "business." RM
I was surprised NOT to see any reference to the impact of massive immigration as a factor in our collapsing health care system. As I understand it, and I might be wrong, many immigrants stand first in line for health care, housing, and other basic necessary needs of Canadians, who have lived and worked for the betterment of Canadians. Are we not committing suicide so that newcomers can live?
As a personal example, I contacted my nurse practitioner a month ago about an appointment about a couple of issues I am experiencing. Today I finally got a response from the clinic and was told my appointment would have to wait until January 13th. I will have to find out if it is a life-threatening issue. At least, at 81 years old, I am fortunate enough to have a nurse practitioner, and my heart breaks for those much younger people who will die for lack of care.
When you were a teenager, how many people did you know of who had the illness that are now commonplace today? Percapita, sickness was rare. What was the size of your local drug store and its pharmacy? How many seniors and middle aged men and women were striving day to day on a cocktail of pharmaceutical meds? What has changed since 1949 up until now?

Bang on, Annette..as a for instance, cpl years ago, after a bee sting reaction, Iwas taken to emerg..where the 2 paramedics HAD to wait with me 6 HOURS until I was admitted to the doc..AND there were 4 patients with paramedics ahead of me..at one point, a cpl paramedics had to show up in a cab to get an ambulance from one of those waiting in line!!.The health system didn’t just fall apart…it has been sabotaged..
