Canada-U.S. authorities bust drugs-for-guns network in Mohawk territory
"The defendants sought to exploit areas along the border where tribal lands create unmonitored access points for cross‑border criminal activity," said U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone III.
Three dual Canadian-American residents from Akwesasne were arrested last week in connection with an international drug smuggling investigation that involved transporting narcotics to the U.S. in exchange for American firearms.
Akwesasne is located along the St. Lawrence River at the Canada-U.S. border, spanning Ontario, Quebec and New York State, and the group made use of the Mohawk territory that straddles the border.
