Canada Post uncertainty drawing to an end as union signs “tentative” agreements
The agreements include a 6.5 per cent wage increase, followed by a three per cent wage increase in the second year, and inflation-matched increases in the last three years.
Canada Post says it is ready to resume operations and rebuild trust in the Crown corporation’s postal service after members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers voted overwhelmingly to ratify tentative agreements with the employer.
The agreements, expected to be signed in the coming weeks, run until Jan. 31, 2029. They include a 6.5 per cent wage increase in the first year, followed by a three per cent increase in the second year and inflation-matched increases over the final three years.
According to the union, 89 per cent of urban members voted to ratify the agreements, while 85.9 per cent of members in the Rural and Suburban Mail Carriers bargaining unit voted in favour of the deals reached with Canada Post in December.
