The cost of postage has been increased by 35% in the last 18 months, according to the Sun article. They are reportedly planning to increase the cost of postage further in January apparently. Plus they reportedly want another government handout of half a billion, if this article is correct? Time to let kanada post be privatized in my view. I suspect the vast majority of employees are semi-skilled at best, making skilled wages plus having a full benefits package of health insurance and defined benifits pensions. That's fine for them, if they have managed to qualify for the wage and benefit package, but with the vast majority of the Canadian public scrimping and cutting corners on the necessities, kan post wanting more strikes me as simple greed. Improving efficiencies would be a far better solution.

Canada Post is a drain on the economy, either major changes are needed or shut it down and let it go private to compete with other carriers.

Only three words required for Canada Post.

SHUT IT DOWN

The last time Canada post went on strike, it affected nothing personally. Basically the only thing mailed out anymore is junk mail. Cheques are directly deposited to accounts and bills are sent via email. As far as parcels, with UPS and FedEx, Canada Post is too expensive.

They strike for more money while being overpaid as it is. They don’t have student loans to pay off for any extra training they would need to do their jobs. They are no longer considered an essential service. They proved that when they cold heartedly went on strike last Christmas.

Sure ... take all the money ... don't deliver the mail , just take the money , go home , stay home ...

Canada Post claims that lost business due to the uncertainty caused by their current labour dispute is costing them ten million dollars a day, or more than three billion dollars a year. So they can return to profitability just by settling the labour dispute. They should do that immediately. Then instead of begging for money from the government, they should sell Purolator. That’s easily good for a few billion dollars. Selling it will improve market competition and fix Canada Post’s finances.
