Canada mum on U.S. sanctions targeting Cuban left-wing terrorist groups
The U.S. has sanctioned five groups it says enable and fund Cuba’s “subversive and radical operations” globally. Canadian feds slow to respond.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced this week that the U.S. is sanctioning five groups it says enable and finance the Cuban communist regime’s “subversive and radical operations” around the world. Additionally, the U.S. government called on any foreign banks to immediately freeze any funding activities.
Global Affairs Canada, Public Services and Procurement Canada, and the Canadian embassy in Havana told Juno News they will respond next week to questions about whether Canada has funded the groups in the past, is currently funding them, or plans to provide funding in the future.
