Calls mount across Canada for Liberals to extend fuel tax holiday

A majority of Canadians across every demographic, including gender, age and province, oppose the return of federal fuel taxes, with women and Canadians over 55 most strongly opposed.

The Carney government’s April decision to pause collection of the federal fuel excise tax on gasoline and diesel until Labour Day was a welcome announcement, but as the deadline nears, calls are mounting from all over the country to keep the tax break in place.

According to a recent Leger poll, 63 per cent of Canadians oppose Ottawa hiking fuel taxes again next month, with 43 per cent strongly opposing it.
