Calgary wrestling bus wrap draws backlash over “queer” imagery
A wrestling-themed bus wrap in Calgary has sparked outrage among commentators who say the bus, designed by a non-binary identifying “queer” artist, is sexualized and inappropriate for children.
One of this year’s Calgary Transit Art Buses has sparked debate and outrage among residents and online commentators, who are concerned that the bus’s imagery is sexualized and inappropriate to display to kids, families, and tourists.
The bus wrap’s artist, Jillian Fleck, identifies as “non-binary” and describes herself as working “within themes of queer identity,” though some online, such as former Alberta premier Jason Kenney, are celebrating the bus’s design for honouring the city’s wrestling legends.
