CAF ends Rogers Pass avalanche safety operations due to lack of resources
Chief of the Defence Staff Gen. Jennie Carignan to Park Canada told Parks Canada the military was facing “significant resource pressures.”
The Canadian Armed Forces will end its avalanche control operations along the Trans-Canada Highway in the Rocky Mountains, citing “significant resource pressures.”
The highway through the Rogers Pass corridor in British Columbia is prone to avalanches that threaten the roughly 4,000 vehicles and 40 trains travelling through the area each day. The CAF has conducted avalanche prevention work there for the past 50 years.
