Most Canadians want to scrap expense accounts for former Governors General
The expense account for retired GGs is $206,000 annually and can even be used to cover eligible expenses for up to six months after a former governor general dies.
The majority of Canadians no longer want taxpayer-funded expense accounts for former governors-general, which amounts to $206,000 annually for miscellaneous spending, according to a new Leger poll.
The survey found that 71 per cent of Canadians elected to eliminate the expense accounts, while only 13 per cent were in favour of keeping it and 16 per cent said they didn’t know.
