Game Five of the Eastern Conference first-round series between the Buffalo Sabres and the Boston Bruins in Buffalo, N.Y., on Tuesday erupted as the crowd sang the Canadian national anthem, despite neither team being Canadian.

The Sabres have long played “O Canada” after the U.S. anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner,” during home games because of Buffalo’s large Canadian fanbase and its status as a border city.
