Mark Carney’s office says he’s had to step back from at least 17 government decisions because of conflict-of-interest concerns tied to his former corporate holdings, including major housing funding, energy policy and even electricity exports to the United States.

The revelation comes from Privy Council Office letters to a parliamentary committee reviewing the “screens” Carney set up last year to manage potential conflicts of interest, according to the Toronto Star.

After replacing Justin Trudeau and winning the spring election, Carney’s office set up a conflict-of-interest “screen,” managed by senior staff, to prevent him from influencing decisions that could benefit former employers.
