RCMP responded to reports of an active shooter at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in northeast British Columbia, prompting a regional emergency alert and a shelter-in-place order for multiple communities.

The alert, issued Tuesday afternoon, instructed residents in Tumbler Ridge, Dawson Creek, Chetwynd, and surrounding areas to remain indoors and lock their doors as police continue an active response at the school. The shooting left 10 people dead, including the shooter, who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
