BREAKING: Ontario PC MPP removed from caucus pending a police investigation
Doug Ford refused to elaborate on why Sault Ste. Marie MPP Chris Scott is “no longer” part of the province’s governing Progressive Conservative caucus as a police investigation is underway.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford refused to elaborate on why Sault Ste. Marie MPP Chris Scott is “no longer” part of the province’s governing Progressive Conservative caucus as a police investigation is underway.
During a press conference in Russell, Ont., on Monday morning, Ford refused to elaborate on why Scott was no longer a member of his party.
“Chris will be no longer sitting with our caucus, you can ask Chris Scott the reason why,” he said Monday.
A statement from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Services noted that Scott, 35 years old, had been arrested, “following an investigation by detectives with the SSMPS.”
“To protect the privacy of the victim(s), no further details regarding the incident or the charges will be released by the SSMPS,” the news release reads.
Scott was not immediately available for comment and has yet to post anything about the sudden departure from the governing party.
Scott is a first-time MPP and narrowly beat the NDP candidate Lisa Vezeau-Allen by just 118 votes, a margin of 0.38 per cent, in the province’s most recent election in February. He took over for the incumbent PC candidate for the riding in the latest election.
He served as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Energy and Mines since April 7, 2025.
This is a developing story.
