BREAKING: Ontario PC MPP removed from caucus pending a police investigation

Ontario Premier Doug Ford refused to elaborate on why Sault Ste. Marie MPP Chris Scott is “no longer” part of the province’s governing Progressive Conservative caucus as a police investigation is underway.
During a press conference in Russell, Ont., on Monday morning, Ford refused to elaborate on why Scott was no longer a member of his party.
“Chris will be no longer sitting with our caucus, you can ask Chris Scott the reason why,” he said Monday.
A statement from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Services noted that Scott, 35 years old, had been arrested, “following an investigation by detectives with the SSMPS.” Police said they would not provide further comment.
“To protect the privacy of the victim(s), no further details regarding the incident or the charges will be released by the SSMPS,” the news release reads.
Scott did not respond to True North's requests for comment and has yet to post anything about the sudden departure from the governing party.
Scott is a first-time MPP and narrowly beat the NDP candidate Lisa Vezeau-Allen by just 118 votes, a margin of 0.38 per cent, in the province's most recent election in February. He took over for the incumbent PC candidate for the riding in the latest election.
He served as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Energy and Mines since April 7, 2025.
This is a developing story.

As Christians we must exercise wisdom. Charlie Kirk seems to have done just that. The danger lies in the temptation to equate allegiance to Christ with allegiance to the nation (any nation). The flag is not equal to the Cross. Followers of Christ are to respect and obey the governing authorities, whether democratically elected, or authoritarian because those rulers are servants of God and govern at God’s pleasure. When the leader of a nation (any nation) claims to be equal to God the Supreme authority, a line has been crossed. The follower of Christ then faces a crisis and a decision: whether to obey God or “Caesar”. (cf. numerous examples are found throughout both the Hebrew Bible as well as the New Testament, and of course in history. The reality today is that most Western Christians of all denominations including evangelicals, are largely biblically illiterate. They are at a loss to articulate the faith in a way that makes sense to people of other faiths and no faith. They don’t know their history. They may know what they believe propositionally by quoting the Bible chapter and verse and by appealing to the Creeds that sum up the faith. But they are hard pressed to explain why they themselves believe what they profess, especially when confronted by a post-truth culture whose highest value is summed up in the words “I identify as…”
