BREAKING: Liberals introduce sweeping social media age verification law
Miller added that platforms will be required to publicly disclose digital safety plans to the Digital Safety Commission.
The Carney government has announced a social media ban for children under 16 as part of its Safe Social Media Act, also known as Bill C-34, which would “enact the Digital Safety Act and the Digital Safety Commission of Canada Act.”
“The act will establish a minimum age of 16 to have a social media account. The act will require social media platforms and AI chatboard services to do more to protect children and make their platforms safe by design,” Culture Minister Marc Miller told reporters on Wednesday.
