BREAKING: Albertans to vote on holding a future separatism referendum

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announced that a plebiscite will be held in the fall on whether the Government of Alberta should pursue a separation referendum vote in the future.

Premier Danielle Smith announced Thursday that she will add a question to the upcoming fall referendum on whether the Alberta government should hold a referendum in the future on separating from Canada.

“Despite my personal support for remaining in Canada, I am deeply troubled by an erroneous court decision that interferes with the democratic rights of hundreds of thousands of Albertans,” Smith said.

“Alberta’s future will be decided by Albertans, not the courts.”
