B.C. teachers union adopts motion to join anti-Israel boycott movement
Activist bloc drives controversial anti-Israel motion inside the BC Teachers Federation.
The BC Teachers’ Federation has passed a motion in support of the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement. The motion, first circulated by activist Harsha Walia, was put forward by what was described as “an ad-hoc group of educators” who “support Palestinian Human Rights.”
Walia celebrated the union’s pledges to donate $50,000 to UNRWA and endorse the Arms Embargo Now campaign, which calls on governments to halt the sale, transfer and military trade of weapons with Israel.
Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) is a global political campaign that calls on individuals, institutions and governments to boycott Israeli goods and institutions, divest from companies linked to Israel and impose sanctions on the Israeli state.
